Wynonna Judd is opening a deeply personal chapter with The Hard Truth, a new album shaped by family history, loss, and the experiences that have followed her throughout her career. In announcing the project, Judd described music that looks directly at difficult memories rather than trying to smooth them over.

The album also reflects her complicated relationship with her late mother and longtime musical partner, Naomi Judd. As Judd has explained while discussing the record, grief has brought a mix of love, anger, and unresolved questions since Naomi’s death in 2022.

Produced by Judd’s husband, Cactus Moser, The Hard Truth takes a more stripped-down approach than some of her earlier solo work. Songs including Girl Who Could Sing connect her present-day perspective with her Kentucky upbringing and family story.

The project also brings in collaborators including The War and Treaty, Patterson Hood, and Iron & Wine. Together, the songs present Judd at a reflective point in her career, using country music to revisit her past while continuing to move forward.
