Moby gave his Dublin audience an unexpected comedy detour during his August 21 concert at Royal Hospital Kilmainham, performing My Lovely Horse from the Irish sitcom Father Ted.
During the live set, the electronic musician introduced the song by jokingly suggesting it as a possible new national anthem for Ireland. The performance came late in a career-spanning show that also featured tracks including Go, Porcelain, Natural Blues and Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?
My Lovely Horse originally appeared in the Father Ted episode A Song for Europe, in which Ted and Dougal try to represent Ireland in the fictional Eurosong contest. The song was written by Neil Hannon alongside series creators Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews.
The Dublin appearance was not Moby’s first time performing the cult favorite. In 2001, he also played My Lovely Horse with Father Ted actor Ardal O’Hanlon during a concert at Slane Castle.
The latest performance added a distinctly Irish pop-culture moment to Moby’s ongoing European live dates.
