Lou Koller, the longtime vocalist and co-founder of New York hardcore band Sick of It All, has died at 59 after battling esophageal cancer.
The band confirmed his death in a statement, remembering Koller for his energy, loyalty and lasting connection with fans around the world. His voice and stage presence helped define Sick of It All’s sound across a career that lasted nearly four decades.
Koller publicly shared his cancer diagnosis in 2024, forcing the band to cancel touring plans while he began treatment. He later announced that he had been declared cancer-free, but the disease eventually returned.
Formed in Queens in 1986, Sick of It All became one of the most influential groups in the New York hardcore scene. The band built a global following through relentless touring, direct lyrics and a reputation for intense live performances.
Koller remained a central figure in hardcore music throughout his life, earning respect from musicians and fans across generations.
