Carlos Indio Solari, one of Argentina’s most influential rock voices, has died at age 77. His family confirmed the news, closing a career that helped shape the sound and spirit of Argentine rock for more than four decades.

Solari was best known as the frontman of Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, a band that built a devoted following without relying on the usual music industry playbook. Public tributes from fans, artists, and cultural figures pointed to the same idea: his songs became part of everyday life for generations of listeners.

Born Carlos Alberto Solari, he became known for sharp, cryptic lyrics and a reserved public image. After Los Redondos ended in 2001, he continued recording and performing with Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado.

Solari had lived with Parkinson’s disease in recent years and stepped away from touring. His influence remains clear in the scale of the reaction to his death and in the place his music still holds across Latin American rock.
